What to Do When the Weather Ruins Your Party Plans
Hey Hosting Queen,
Ah… the weather. Is there a more talked-about topic? And yes — it can definitely impact your summer parties too.
I’ve hosted many gatherings that ended up being affected by the weather. My daughter’s second birthday party was held in the afternoon of what would later become a very strong tornado that evening. It kept getting hotter and hotter as the day went on, and the sky grew heavier and darker by the minute.
It can be incredibly disheartening when the weather comes in and changes even the best-laid plans.
Sometimes the party simply can’t be saved.
But other times… it becomes one of those “Hey, remember when…?” stories.
Like the time a big storm hit exactly when the party was supposed to start. We quickly rushed the food inside and set up folding tables in the living room instead. Good times.
And did I mention the storm knocked out the power too?
Despite all of that, we still had a great evening.
When you’re planning a summer soirée, there are a few things that can help if the weather decides not to cooperate:
⛈️ Check the weather forecast
(Though let’s be honest — it doesn’t always cooperate.)
⛈️ Have a backup plan
A garage, basement, or indoor space ready to go in case you need to move quickly.
⛈️ Consider a rain date
This isn’t always possible, but when it is, it can make things much easier.
⛈️ Use covered spaces
A covered porch, patio, or dining tent can save the day.
Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather — or how quickly it can change.
Sometimes the best thing to do in those situations is laugh…
(or have a good cry first, then laugh) and try again another time.
One particularly stormy summer when I had many parties planned, I think most of them were affected by storms in some way or another.
However, you can make the rest of your party planning effortless.
