The Holiday Party That Lit Me Up (and Why It Worked)
Hey Hosting Queen,
It was December 27, 2006. Cold and snowy outside. Warm and festive inside. The house was full — kids of all ages playing together, adults chatting and laughing, the hum of holiday music in the background. Everyone brought a plate of appetizers or desserts to share, and the table was overflowing.
It’s one of my all-time favorite holiday memories. Simple, cozy, joy-filled. Even now, it warms my heart when I think about it.
At the time, I had an 18-month-old and was five months pregnant with my second, so my capacity was limited. I kept it easy on myself and asked everyone to bring a plate. They were thrilled to contribute, and it created a sense of togetherness that made the evening even more special.
Why It Worked:
People love an excuse to gather
The timing was perfect — after Christmas but before New Year’s
Guests were happy to clear out lingering holiday treats
No babysitters needed (the older kids happily entertained the younger ones)
Everything was simple and easy for everyone involved
It was the kind of gathering that reminds you what the holidays are really about: connection, laughter, and making space for joy.
What about you? What’s your favorite holiday party memory? I’d love to know — Email me and share. I read every response. 💌
For now, I’m wishing you and your family the warmest, most magical season — however you celebrate. I’ll be back in your inbox in January with more tips and inspiration.
Happy Holidays! 🎄✨
