5 Ways to Add More Intention to Your Gatherings
Hey Hosting Queen,
Think back… when was the last time you truly felt seen and valued as a guest?
Maybe it was at a friend's dinner party. Maybe it was at a celebration where someone remembered a little detail about you. Maybe it was something as simple as being welcomed with a drink and feeling like your arrival mattered.
We all want to feel seen. We all want to feel like we matter.
As a host, you have the opportunity to create that feeling for your guests. And it doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Often, it's the little things that make people feel genuinely cared for.
Here are five easy ways to add more intention to your next gathering.
1. Have a Drink Ready
Make sure your guests have something to drink within the first few minutes of arriving.
It doesn't have to be fancy. Water is perfectly fine!
The point isn't the drink itself. It's that your guest arrives and immediately feels welcomed and looked after.
2. Remember Their Food Needs
Whenever possible, remember and accommodate your guests' known food sensitivities and preferences.
You don't have to bend over backwards trying to please everyone, but if you know someone needs gluten-free or vegan options, having something available shows that you remembered.
And if you don't feel comfortable preparing alternative-diet foods yourself, that's okay too. There are plenty of options available to purchase.
It's not about making a completely different meal for every guest. It's about making sure the people you invited can comfortably enjoy the food you're serving.
3. Add a Little Unexpected Extra
This is where small details can make a big impact.
Think:
A candle in the bathroom
A printed menu at each place setting
A fresh bouquet at the drink station
A place card with each guest's name
None of these things are necessary.
But that's exactly what makes them special.
They're little moments that say, "I thought about you."
4. Ask a Thoughtful Question
Give your guests an opportunity to connect beyond the usual small talk.
A thoughtful question can get everyone talking and give quieter guests an easy way to join the conversation.
It doesn't have to become a structured dinner-party activity. Sometimes one good question is all it takes to open up a much better conversation.
5. Take Time to Connect Personally
You don't need to spend the entire evening circulating around the room.
But make an effort to personally connect with each guest, even if it's only for a few minutes.
Ask how they're doing. Find out what's new in their life. Listen.
Being genuinely interested in someone is one of the simplest—and most meaningful—ways to make them feel welcome.
Intention Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
And if you want your hosting to feel easier from beginning to end, having a simple routine can make all the difference. I've shared how I build a repeatable hosting routine so I'm not reinventing the wheel every time I have people over.

I'd love to know, and I really do read every response.
