Can I Really Plan My Own Party? Where DIY Hosts Get Stuck
Hey Hosting Queen,
Are you a DIY Queen?
(You’re in good company — because I certainly am!)
When you’re planning a gathering, big or small, where do you tend to get stuck?
There’s absolutely no shame in it. In fact, most DIY hosts run into the same challenges.
Let’s take a look at a few common places where DIY Queens get stuck — and what you can do instead so your next gathering runs smoothly (and you don’t miss your own party again).
Doing Too Much
Problem:
The decor, menu, and other details become too elaborate. It’s easy to over-complicate things and feel like you need to over-deliver.
Fix:
Keep it simple.
• One entrée
• One dessert
• 1–2 sides
• Elegant decor
• A few tasteful touches
Simple often feels more polished than trying to do everything.
Too Many Ideas
Problem:
You have lots of ideas and try to include them all in one party.
Fix:
Narrow it down to one main idea per party and stick with it.
And remember: Lists, lists, lists.
Don’t deviate from your lists — even though you’ll be tempted to.
No Plan (or Not Planning Ahead)
Problem:
Running with random ideas and prepping without a clear plan usually leads to stress.
Fix:
Have a plan.
Even the smallest gatherings benefit from a simple plan.
• Set your menu
• Decide your decor
• Make your lists
• Stick with your decisions
Changing the Plan Midway
Problem:
Constantly changing the plan goes hand-in-hand with having too many ideas.
Fix:
Keep it simple.
Make a plan — and stick to it.
Shopping on Party Day
Problem:
Last-minute shopping usually leads to rushing, overspending, and unnecessary stress.
Fix:
• Plan your shopping ahead of time
• Buy what you need in advance
• Prepare as much food as possible 1–2 days before the party
The bottom line, Queen?
Keep it simple. Have a plan. And stick to it.
